What is Pregnancy Massage?
Pregnancy Massage is a complementary choice for prenatal care or after birth.
This massage can be useful to ease discomfort at a time when you can’t use some medicines or some other medical options to relieve discomforts during pregnancy, such as:
- Backaches
- Ribs or hips pain
- Stiff neck
- Leg cramps
- Headaches
- Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
- Edema or swelling
HOW DOES THIS HELP?
We will use a variety of Swedish, Circulatory Massage (edemas) and Deep Tissue Massage techniques which involve longitudinal stripping, friction techniques and soft trigger point compression.
Our Pregnancy massage is more “therapeutic” rather than “relaxing” as we may use deeper massage techniques to bring a truly release of your muscles. Remember getting a “soft” and “relaxing” massage could be nice during your treatment but do you think the benefits will last at least a couple of weeks after? If you don’t like deeper techniques, the physio will adapt the treatment to your needs.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?
HOW CAN THIS HAPPEN
Muscle tension created by carrying the extra weight of a baby can be relieved by encouraging blood flow to the afflicted areas. This provides more nutrient-rich oxygen, increases the flow of lymphatic fluid, which flash out toxins and metabolic waste becoming an excellent way to reduce edemas and Carpal Tunnel Syndrome symptoms.
Tight buttocks can cause sciatic pain as it irritates the nerve receptors within the muscle. Compression techniques will reduce tightness by relieving nerve irritation and muscular discomfort.
The usual aches and pains of pregnancy are countered by the release of serotonin, your body’s natural anti-pain chemical, which is stimulated by massage.
WHAT HAPPEN DURING THE PREGNANCY MASSAGE?
At Belfast Physio and Massage, we have the best and probably the unique massage technique performed by a Physiotherapist.
Your therapist will chat through your medical history and any current or previous injuries. They will do a physical assessment if they think is need it, prior to starting your Pregnancy massage.
We take extra care to ensure our patients are comfortable. Side-line positioning with supportive special pregnancy pillow will be used to alleviate the extra strain on the lower back and pelvic areas when the pressure of massage techniques are applied.
Finally, they’ll use grapes oil and bamboo sticks according to your needs.
