I’m sure that almost all of us have used a self-massage ball, but few of us know how to use it in cases of injuries, for example in sciatica, if you have a sciatica of muscular origin, and you have put the massage ball under your buttocks YOU MADE A BIG MISTAKE
WHAT IS SCIATICA?
Sciatica is a medical condition characterized by pain going down the leg from the lower back. This pain may go down the back, outside, or front of the leg. Onset is often sudden following activities like heavy lifting, though gradual onset may also occur. Typically, symptoms are only on one side of the body.Certain causes, however, may result in pain on both sides.Lower back pain is sometimes but not always present.Weakness or numbness may occur in various parts of the affected leg and foot.
WHY IS SELF MASSAGING IN SCIATICA NOT EFFECTIVE?
One of the causes of sciatica is produced by the tension of the piriformis muscle, we have to keep in mind that sciatica is an inflammation of the sciatic nerve and if we compress it with the ball the injury will be aggravated so if you use ball do it around the gluteus but avoiding the area of sciatica located in the mid-gluteal area (in the little bone that comes out when you sit down).
